Buildling an escape route for Rapunzel

Do you know the fairytale of Rapunzel?

If you do, you'll know that she was trapped in a tall tower. She had very long hair and managed to escape the tower, as the handsome prince used it to climb up and rescue her.
Unfortunately in our scenario, Rapunzel had cut off all her hair, so she could not use it to help her escape. We had to come up with different solutions. Some ideas were ladders, slides, zip lines and even hot air balloons! Here are some photos of our designs.

STEAM - Humpty Drop

One of our STEAM activities this term, was to create a vessel to help Humpty Dumpty stay safe when he was dropped from a great distance.

Our Humpty's were real eggs, and we dropped them off the balcony!  Some survived, and unfortunately some didn't!  Check out our movie below.

Jelly making

Today for writing we made jelly. We had previously written the instructions. We had to follow the steps that we had written in our books. Luckily, we had written them right, and our jelly set and tasted delicious!

Hoop Gliders

For one of our STEAM challenges we had to create a hoop glider. We challenged ourselves to create one that would travel the greatest distance. We made our first prototype, and then adapted them by making changes to the hoop size, straw weight, distance between hoops etc. We had a 'throw-off' (launch), to see which one would travel the furtherest. We measured the distances.

Football Coaching

We have been so lucky to have Football South come in to coach us over the last few Tuesday's. We have learnt a lot of skills, from trapping and kicking the ball, to controlling it when dribbling and passing.

Bugs, bugs, bugs!

Today we had some wonderful tutors from the museum come in to support us in our topic on 'Insects and Spiders'.
We got to look at some examples of different bugs, go on a bug hunt and some of us even got to dress up as a spider. We learnt a lot of interesting facts along the way.

Honesty - our value of the term

We watched a cartoon about the story of Pinocchio. We discussed the lesson that he learnt about being honest and telling the truth. Our display shows the advice that we would give Pinocchio to help him to be more honest.

Cross Country Champs!

We all did an amazing job at our school cross-country. All of us competed, and tried our hardest to get around the course.

Evie and Mateo managed to get first place in their races and received a medal at today's assembly.

Instruction Writing

We have had a lot of fun at writing time over the last two weeks. We are learning to write instructions, and as part of this we have been making lots of things.

This week, we got to make hot chocolate and 'Nutella Freckle Bread'. We then wrote down the instructions about how to make these.

Learning to tell the time

We have been learning to tell the time in maths. We made clocks to help us out with this.
