Paid Union Meeting - Thursday

Dear Room 9 Parents,
Last week, your child should have brought home a notice about the upcoming 'Teacher's Union Meeting'. If for some reason, it has not got to you, I have attached a photo of it for you with this post.

There will be no classroom programme running on this afternoon, and parents are being asked to collect their children at 12.30pm (if possible). There will be supervision in the hall for those children that are unable to be picked up.

We do need to know who will be remaining at school. If you intend to pick up your child at 12.30pm on Thursday, could you please either fill in the slip on the notice and send it back to school ASAP, or e-mail me. (trina@georgestreet.school.nz).

Thank you all for your co-operation with this!

Octocan

THANK YOU so much to all of the parents and children who donated food to the Octocan collection. Our class did an amazing job and managed to get close to 90 cans!  Well done everyone. You really showed some wonderful compassion.

Making cheese!

Thank you #schoolkit and #dairynz for providing all the goodies for us to make cheese. Today we had a go at making paneer cheese. We had great fun.

We are looking forward to making some mozerella next week!

Poetry - Oral Language Finalists

Our three finalists did a wonderful job at today's finals. They all presented their poem in front of the whole school! Well done Emma W, Amelia and Bea, you did an awesome job. (Poor Zac was away sick and didn't get to present his poem!)

Here are some photos of the finalists receiving their certificates.

Today some children in Room 9 created a tower made out of place value blocks. Look how tall they managed to get it!

Dress-up day: Friday!

Friday 8 June 2018 No comments
This Friday the 15th of June we will be holding a dress-up theme to collect items for the upcoming PTA fundraiser - 'The Quiz Night'.

Room 9's theme will be 'Movies and Television'. We thought that this theme would allow a lot of possibilities. (We were also battling over the top two themes -sporting stars and pyjamas! We decided that you see both of these types of costumes on movies and television, so our dilemma was solved!)

We are in charge of bringing a sweet treat for a raffle. This could be a bar / box of chocolates, packet of biscuits, some packaged lollies ...

Thank you in advance for your contributions to this day!

Personification!

We learnt today how to write using 'personification'. We wrote sentences that gave a non-human 'thing', a human characteristic. Can you spot this in our sentences?

Drama Time!

This week we have been practising plays during reading time. Some of the groups presented their play to the class. We had great fun being different characters!

We are looking forward to watching the other two groups when they present them next week!

Brianna baked for the Queen!

Tuesday 5 June 2018 No comments
Yesterday, it was a Monday holiday to celebrate the Queen's birthday.  (Her actually birthday, is on the April the 21st!)
Brianna baked a cake to share with the class to celebrate this special occasion. We also learnt that Brianna is related to the royal family! She brought along her family tree to show us the exciting link.

Thank you Brianna (and Tracy). The cake was delicious!

William teaches us some football skills

William's strength goal was to teach some 'football skills' to children in the class. He made a fantastic coach. We went outside and he taught us how to strike and trap the ball. We then completed some soccer drills. Thanks coach Osborne!
